February 1998 — March 2000 (2 years 2 months)
After Bowne acquired Sitewerks, I co-general-managed the Seattle office for about a year, then ran the Boston office for 4 months before replacing myself and moving to the New York office to run the cross-office Information Architecture group.

May 1995 — February 1998 (2 years 10 months)
Sitewerks was started mid-1995 by myself and my cousin Tish Hill. It was pre-Netscape browser and very early in terms of the graphical web. We landed a key Microsoft contract, did great work and were able to build the company from 2 to 60 people over the ensuing 3 years on cashflow.
Sitewerks was an award-winning, full service web-shop with skills in design, project management and programming. It was sold to Bowne Inc. in February 2008 after discussions with circa 15 companies.
Advanced Studies , Industrial Design , 1994 — 1995
During Architecture school, I realized would have preferred studying Product Design but after 5 years of Architecture I knew I couldn't handle 4 more years of school. Therefore, I negotiated the ability to start in an upper year and pursued this for 1.5 years before being drawn to the web world in Seattle.
At Emily Carr, I learned a significant amount about Industrial Design and honed my computer skills. One of my first projects was a set of click-in snowboard bindings foreshadowing their later release.
Bachelor of Architecture with Distinction , Architecture , 1987 — 1993
Carleton was a top Architecture school in Canada and known for pushing their students very hard and for their creativity. It was an extremely intense 5 year bachelor program where I learned how to work very hard and the beauty of professions involving both art and science.
German Exchange Program 1986 — 1987
I was born in September and skipped a grade so was very young for my class and upon graduating from 12th grade did not feel confident in my choice of study. At that point, I was given the opportunity to do a free exchange to a high-end private school in a castle in Southern Germany. During my time there I learned German and was able to investigate many areas of interest as well as explore Europe.
