The key driver in my work is communication between areas of expertise, especially where this can be brought to bear on strategic environmental and socio-economic development - about both of which I am passionate.
An established lecturer and writer across the spectrum of strategic and public policy, I am currently involved nationally in the areas of sustainability, regeneration and the knowledge economy. My interests here extend also to the functioning of the public, private and third sectors and their impact / interaction with economies at every level from the local to the national.
I have wide experience of the political process across sectors, which I bring to bear in my work on strategic policy development.
Amongst what I regard as my major achievements have been my roles in bringing together people who wished to see the development of the Daresbury Laboratory - and especially the 4GLS programme - when this entire NW provision was at risk; and in the Millennium Festival Award for and later the (subsequently award-winning) renewal of the public realm in Liverpool's Hope Street.
I was also, for those with long memories, instigator of FACTASS, which succeeded in keeping the social curriculum safe at a time in the 1980s when others wanted to remove it.
I remain active, too, in my local community, where I am engaged and / or lead in, e.g., a number of arts and culture ventures, some of them directly associated with regeneration in my home city of Liverpool - the UK location for the 2008 European Capital of Culture celebrations.
I have senior experience across the public-private spectrum, and as a communicator and educator. This enables me to take roles requiring substantial knowledge of how things 'work' / are likely to develop in the future, and to act as 'translator' between many different interests, whether within or between different areas of expertise and stakeholding.
I am also much involved in issues around diversity, equality and disability, and how these impinge on sustainable living.
