Helen earned her BA in Anthropology from the University of Louisiana and her PhD in Physical Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh, where she taught classes for several years in anthropology, psychology, and statistics. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Helen was a Research Assistant at the University of Louisiana-New Iberia Research Center, where she trained chimpanzees and conducted behavioral research with chimps and children, forming the basis of some published research in evolutionary and developmental psychology journals. After graduating from Pitt and discovering that the local anthropology companies were not hiring, Helen joined JustSystems Evans Research, Inc., where she now works as Executive Assistant and Human Resources and Office Manager. Helen is active in a number of professional, arts, and community organizations. A student of blacksmithing at Touchstone Center for Crafts for over seven years, Helen has served as Vice-President of the board of directors since February 2006. Currently on the board of the Friendship Preservation Group (a community organization), Helen is also a member of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society, The Young Preservationists Association, Fe Gallery Grants Committee, Pittsburgh Area Artists Blacksmiths Association, Artists Blacksmiths Association of North America, Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil, and The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Braddock Lodge #883. Her work has been shown in several Pittsburgh galleries, and she has assisted in curating several art shows in the area.
Helen's specialties are human resources, grant writing, non-profit development, home renovation, and making lovely things out of metal and clay.
