Harriet Pearson is VP, Security Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer at IBM. Responsible for information policy and practices affecting over 380,000 employees and thousands of clients, she leads a global team of data protection and technical professionals at IBM who work with senior management to address privacy and data security challenges in the leadership manner expected of this global brand. She reports directly to the SVP Legal & Regulatory Affairs & General Counsel and was appointed by IBM's Chairman & CEO to the company's top-300 executive team (Integration & Values team).
She is active in efforts to shape global cybersecurity and information policy and business practices, in particular via leadership roles in the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Center for Information Policy Leadership. She is also a member of the CSIS Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency.
Harriet is a practicing attorney and Certified Information Privacy Professional with broad executive leadership experience in Human Resources, Communications and Public Policy Issue Management, and subject matter expertise in privacy, security, Web 2.0 governance, HR (esp labor, health, FLSA), environmental, contract/M&A, and administrative law and policy.
Outside of IBM, Harriet teaches a graduate seminar on Security, Privacy & Trust at Georgetown University and sings barbershop with the DC-area Potomac Harmony Chorus.
