Media Professional and Associate Professor

As a tenured faculty member in the Department of Digital Media at Utah Valley University and as a CEO of a start-up devoted to increasing the production quality of mobile on-demand media (podcasting), this next year I plan on using my experience to make positive change. I plan on devoting much time to writing and recruiting media professionals in the creation of highly focused educational materials that will bring media professionals to a new level of production. Moreover, I plan on solidifying partnerships with some of the largest media companies in the world to help raise the level of awareness and advise on the creation of better "experiences" in the downloadable media realm. It won't be easy–but needed change rarely is!

January 2008 — Present (1 year 7 months)
It's a wonderful time to be in mobile media development–especially portable-on-demand media known as podcasting! Podcast Tune-Up is committed to bring robust standards and more refined development practices to an emerging industry through highly focused educational resources, consulting, and creative production services.

January 2002 — Present (7 years 7 months)
I'm currently a full-time tenured faculty member at Utah Valley University in the Department of Digital Media. I have a keen interest on researching and teaching experience design and applying it to the mobile media market. Experience design is one of the most important elements in effective product design but one of the least understood and applied. I'm on a mission to change that by educating the next generation of media developers with a philosophy of developing satisfying "experiences" rather than the doing business as usual.
(Online Media industry)
May 1999 — June 2001 (2 years 2 months)
The "original" Quepasa.com was a sweet experience during the dot-com craze and crash! While many will look at the rise and fall of the approximate 867 casualties during this time period with a skeptical view–few of us would trade the experience and knowledge gained from our digital adventures. I learned valuable lessons from managing content and the delivery of online media that has become an invaluable addition to my professional qualifications. Add to that the many professional associations gained over that time period and my time there was a complete experience. All this has made a positive impact on my professional career and advanced my abilities.
MS , Geography Education , 1997 — 1998
Once again focusing on Geog. Ed., I continued to work on defining best practices in multimedia product development. My Masters project was focused on applying the Rapid Prototyping Model within a multimedia development workflow. It was a successful study and I have applied that knowledge every day to my projects both at the University level as well as in my industry consulting.
BS , Geography Education , 1992 — 1996
While working on my degree in Geog. Ed., I focused heavily on educational technology and multimedia product development for K-12 classrooms. These experiences began my incredible journey into experience design and applying creative principles to develop better media. A wonderful start to a wonderful career in industry and as a faculty member at Utah Valley University in the Digital Media Department.
