Haney has a wide range of experience organizing the efforts of other people and groups. Prior to joining Roots of Change, he managed the online community at Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm creating opportunity for people around the world. Earlier, Haney was community manager for Linden Lab's Second Life, the 3-D virtual world built and owned by its residents. He has led teams to create broadband training programs as senior producer of Ninth House Network and has produced social-issue documentaries, computer games, and training videos with the media partnership Adair and Armstrong. Haney served as community liaison for the Palo Alto Cultural Center and was one of the founders of the Mid-peninsula Peace Center.

Second Life - 3D virtual world. Initiated and managed a wide range of programs. Managed a team of six staff, and initiated and managed the volunteer Mentors and the Instructors programs. Led the development of the Greeter program that allows new users to preview and select in-world guides from the website before logging in. Managed Live Help, a program in which volunteers answer questions via IM. Developed a program offering in-world currency to event hosts, triggering an increase from 20 to 1000 events per week. Initiated and managed the Game Developers Competition. Organized Linden World, where dozens of residents contributed rides and attractions to an amusement park. Established player-run communities dedicated to a particular theme. Managed the creation of Burning Life, an expo modeled after the Burning Man festival, and initiated the first large urban area and shopping center. Developed a variety of ways to deploy land including land rushes, group land, and subsidized plots.

Led cross-functional teams in the development of simulations for the entertainment-oriented, Internet-delivered training service named by Forbes as "Best of the Web." Gathered project requirements, created schedules, and allocated project resources. Defined dependencies, identified and shortened the critical path, and tracked project components and milestones throughout the complete product development lifecycle. Hired and supervised two Associate Producers. Templatized and automated the design process and introduced the process of repeated user testing and tuning before production of any assets.
