Sales Engineering Consultants perform a technical pre-sales function working in tandem with account managers and engineering design teams to provide the most suitable and cost effective solution to meet customer needs. In THUS this includes providing data, voice and internet solutions as well as e-mail, web and application hosting bespoke solutions.
In my role at THUS I have lead the specification and development of a number of world and UK firsts for THUS' major accounts:
- First e-mail to TV service delivery platform in the UK.
- First 2-way SMS service for TV to mobile phone in the world.
- First 2-way MMS (picture messaging) service for fixed device to mobile device in the world.
I have also gained a very good understanding of MPLS networking as the next generation of WAN interworking.

Developing software and libraries for the SCO Unix operating system. Initially this work was in the Unix utilities team before moving into the core networking team where I developed a solid understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols and APIs.
During my period in the core networking team I represented SCO on The Open Group's international standards body for the socket and XTI APIs. I also regularly attended the IETF to keep abreast of developments in Internet standards.
Latterly in the role I lead the team contributing the core network elements for the UnixWare 7 operating system.
