My previous position was at Vircom, which was acquired by Datatec and formed Logical which was Datatec's service division (in South Africa). I worked as a database consultant specialising in SQL Server technology. We pretty much owned the Microsoft Services market in South Africa, with pretty much every large organisation being customers of Datatec/Logical/Vircom.
I spent most of my time at Investment banks, retail banks and insurance organisations. I'd like to say that my job involved being called in to save the day, but unfortunately it was usually in the middle of the night :-)
