The most enjoyable challenges for me are working with world class software designers and researchers to build practical, robust, large scale, systems that utilize advanced ideas from the cutting edge of research. This has consistently lead to product technologies that provide significant competitive advantages for the sponsoring companies.
One of the key pillars of my system design approach is to encourage active and free participation in the open source community on the part of commercial developers -- I firmly believe that most software projects would benefit most by owning less of their software and focusing more on the aspects where they can provide genuine innovation. In other words, you don't have to own your database technology to build a successful internet service :)
- Software Development using C++, Java, Ruby, and Python.
- Machine Learning and Data Mining: Reinforcement Learning, Pattern Recognition, Classification, Clustering.
- Optimization: Dynamic and Nonlinear Programming, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines (SVM).
- Mathematics: Probability, Stochastic Processes, and Algorithms.

Perform duties as CTO helping to build the company from less than ten employees to over forty. My major Accomplishments include:
- Lead design and implementation of content analysis pipeline including personal of development text mining and fuzzy logic libraries in ruby.
- Lead design and development of search capability based on SOLR (Search on Lucene w/Replication).
- Lead design of comprehensive relevance ranking framework including "federated" search and supervised development and deployment of search ranking, spell checking, and de-duplication systems.
- Lead design and helped build distributed web classification system based on Hadoop -- work lead to a filed patent.
- Wrote a tutorial for Hypertable Query Language. Developed a ruby extension for Hypertable.
- Directly hired eight engineers plus assisted recruiting and hiring VP/Eng, Director/Content , VP/Product, and four senior engineers.
