Gordon’s work ensures everybody (corporations, non-profits, those working for people with disabilities...) remembers to “think like a user” and helps deliver results which are effective, efficient and satisfying.
Gordon advocates social justice for information design by synthesizing linguistics, usability, information architecture and accessibility issues into a 21st century universal approach to successful, well-structured and easy-to-use designs.
Founder of gmeta.com, serving companies big and small and more recently Executive Director of webguides.org which seeks to supply similar usability and strategy services to mission-based organizations.
From Northern Ireland, Gordon attests to speaking several languages ( some of it English...) and has a black belt in Judo – though this is not used in client negotiations unless really necessary.
A new approach: Applied Universal Design ( AUD ) ™
AUD goes much further than (and hopes to eradicate) the need for "accessibility-only" rules in information design for the web in particular.
Therefore, improvements for any audience optimizes the experience for all audiences without any additional programming effort needed.
Specifically, as the Boomer market (50 yrs + ) blossoms into THE 21st century market, the principles of AUD will become not only web design and business best practices, but will indeed be the deciding factor in the survival of organizations themselves.
AUD by definition dictates that all information could be designed to be made available to anybody, anywhere, anyhow, in any language, on any device, with any browser, at any age, with any level of physical or mental ability.
During client engagements Gordon explains these principles as they relate to the project context at hand and practically applies theory in advising the best approaches to solving information design problems.
