For most of my career I have worked in engineering and senior management, particularly in high technology in one way or another, apart from 6 years running a group of adventure activity centers in the South of France in the early 80's.

Work experience includes engineering and IT at Rolls-Royce Ltd, Finance and management accounting at EMI Medical Electronics Ltd and management of high technology electronic development at Radionics, Inc., Casi-Rusco, Inc. and Assa Abloy AB.

My special interest is the intersection of corporate strategy and technology strategy - my fairly unique combination of past experience and qualifications gives me a perspective that is valuable to senior management of companies moving into new technologies or technology companies moving into new markets.

    I managed high technology development teams that worked on firmware, electronic hardware and software platforms that are built into locks and other security products made by companies in the Assa Abloy group. Projects included 802.15.4 wireless devices, CAN based wired local networking, middleware and SOA software.I developed partnerships with companies like Cisco, GE, Siemens and other global OEM's and integrators that use our high technology locking products in their systems.

    Casi-Rusco was acquired by Interlogix in 1997. Interlogix was acquired by GE in 2002 and Casi-Rusco products became the high-end of the GE Security line. While I was running Casi-Rusco, we were focused on product line renewal, implementing new product development methodologies and developing our international business. Casi-Rusco competed head to head with Lenel for the access control and integrated systems business of the Fortune 1000 and Global 1000 corporations.

    Radionics was the leading manufacturer of high-end commercial and residential alarm systems in the US. I was responsible for its acquisition by Expament International in 1988 and was President until it was divested by Expamet in 1996. It subsequently became part of Bosch Security. Through the period I was there, we moved into new markets and substantially renewed the product line. I became heavily involved in new product development methodologies. Our R&D department was located in Silicon Valley, so exposed to its innovative environment and culture.

    In the mid-80's Expamet was transforming itself from a staid UK manufacturer of mechanical building products into a diversified international group, including security electronics. I joined the group to run its existing US operations, but with a particular focus on moving into electronic security through acquisition. I rationalized the existing construction products manufacturing operations and led the acquisition of Radionics, Inc, which I then joined as President.

    PGL is the leading provider of activity holidays in the UK. I joined the company to run its French Operations, consisting of three permanent activity centers in the Ardeche and four seasonal centers on the Mediterranean. We provided activity holidays for teens, young adults and familes - canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, caving. We also ran a small ski program in the winter near Grenoble. I was responsible for all aspects of the French business, property development, contract negotiations, logistics, equipment purchases, catering. We had a small permanent crew and up to 600 seasonal staff at the summer peak. I spoke very fluent French at the time, though time has reduced my vocabulary somewhat now.
