Background

Summary

As a content creator I have solid experience in videography (camerawork and post-production), as well as web content writing, publishing, and graphics production. My work has earned two Telly Awards, four San Diego Press Club awards, and recognition as a Webby Official Honoree. I always keep a finger on the pulse of new media, inbound marketing, and communications trends. Creating an exceptional user experience and advocating for universal access to information —these are just a few things I care about and heavily influence my daily work. I serve as a subject matter expert on online social collaboration services, blogging and content management platforms, and web-technology integration, with experience in installation, workflow, and production.

Experience

Senior Web Developer, Videographer, Content Creator

Port of San Diego
– Present (8 years 11 months)Greater San Diego Area

As the lead web developer for the Marketing & Communications department, I am responsible for maintenance of the public website, portofsandiego.org, its content quality, and full style guide. I also conduct research and testing of interoperable technologies to enhance the website's functionality for both the general public and agency staff, taking into consideration both desktop and mobile users. Since I am a marketing technologist, I must also seamlessly integrate a diverse array of hardware/software with our overall marketing workflow; this includes but is not limited to (1) graphic/web design document creation/collaboration, (2) photo/video b-roll clip storage, data redundancy, cataloging and metadata retrieval, (3) social media and online content delivery, aggregation, automation, and interoperability, (4) business intelligence reporting via monitoring of online news, RSS feeds, and social media.

My secondary role is videography. At the Port I have accumulated more than five years of experience with consumer and prosumer video camera equipment, wireless audio recording, and field camerawork. I have served as the principal and secondary storyline editor in various non-linear editing applications and am the primary post-production staffer. In this role I also render and output all official videos for broadcast, host on YouTube and other online channels, and upload/publish for our podcast network.

My third function is content creation. In addition to videography, I have a background in print/web/video-based graphic design and digital media. At the Port I am responsible for enhancing online articles with compelling imagery (processed photography, artwork, infographics, etc) and embedded video. I have basic experience in interactive HTML5 animations. To supplement published web posts I promote our content via targeted email marketing and social media. I am occasionally asked to serve as a writer, proofreader, backup photographer, and motion graphics artist.
