Paul Glader is a reporter at The Wall Street Journal, writing about General Electric Co., management issues and industrial companies. Previously, he worked for a summer in editorial development at The Wall Street Journal Digital Network (2008), he wrote about the global metals industries as a reporter based in the Pittsburgh bureau of The Wall Street Journal from Feb. 2004 to Aug. 2007. Before that, he worked for the Journal in New York and San Francisco, writing about travel (Weekend Journal in 2003), health/science (New York intern in fall of 2002) and technology (San Francisco intern in Fall of 2001). Before joining the Journal full-time in Nov. 2002, Paul was a reporter in the San Francisco bureau of the Associated Press (Spring, 2002) and had professional internships at The Washington Post (Summer 2002), The Indianapolis Star (Summer 2001 as a Pulliam Fellow), The Prague Tribune (2000 in the Czech Republic), Gannett News Service in Washington D.C. (Summer 1999) and The Emporia Gazette (in Kansas). Originally from South Dakota, Paul majored in Political Science at The University of South Dakota (Allen H. Neuharth Scholar) and attended summer programs through Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and in Prague.
Paul completed a Knight Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University in 2007-2008, taking classes in the business school and journalism school, receiving an M.S. from the journalism school in May 2008.
In addition to reporting, Paul is interested in the future of media and finding sustainable models for news gathering and story telling. He enjoys writing and reporting but is also interested in editing and managing in the future. He has a continued interest in media/technology start-ups, new ideas and entrepreneurial behavior in media.
Paul's been a newspaper reporter since age 16 for a variety of local, regional, national and international newspapers, wire services and magazines. He's been on radio and TV dozens of times. He's gained experience writing, reporting, investigating news and feature stories. He's also had experience editing copy, making editorial decisions and leading groups of people. He enjoys conceiving and developing new business ideas and models.
