Gianni Catalfamo’s Summary

Right after completing my Nuclear Engineering degree at the Milan Polytechnic in 1981, I started my career at IBM, where I worked for about 2 years as a Systems Engineer; I then switched to sales and marketing moving over to Olivetti, where I gained valuable field experience in the finance & banking industries.

In 1986 I founded the Italian operation of Lotus Development Corp., initially working out of its European HQ based in Windsor, UK, and then setting up the first Lotus office in Milan. My responsibilities at Lotus grew along with the success of the company in Italy which in the 7 year of my tenure moved from 2 employees and USD 700,000 in sales to 35 employees and over USD 10 million in sales. My last job at Lotus was Country General Manager.

In 1993 I joined Image Time as partner of the agency. My role in client teams is usually to offer senior advice on communication strategy: for example I am the Account Director for the EMEA region for accounts such as IBM or Lenovo. In 1999 Image Time was acquired by Omnicom and on october 5th, 2004, pursuant to a merger between ECC and Brodeur Worldwide, we became Pleon; here, on top of my duties as Country CEO for Italy, I have been for two years European Director for the Technology Practice.

Most recently I have assumed the role of European Director, Social Media matching my interest in the phenomenon and leveraging my experience on several client projects; I somewhat frequently lecture on the matter both in Italy and abroad and write on this topic on the 'Social Media' channel of my (new) blog Son of GeekTalk (link below).

I have been a board member of Assintel (association of italian technology companies).

Some of my written works have been selected as required reading for the SDA Bocconi Graduate School of Management’s course, ‘Internet for Business Communication’ where I occasionally spoke on the impact of technology on communication.
