During my first three years at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) I was a Technical Consultant in the Professional Services (PS) group. I was responsible for designing and building disaster recovery solutions for HDS customers. This was a customer facing role requiring extensive travel and effective time management skills. In my third year, I led an effort to build a KM program within our PS group and was promoted to Knowledge Manager, the first such at HDS. In this role I lead four communities of practice (CoP), each aligned to a company’s strategic initiative, and I am responsible for removing obstacles to capture, sharing, and re-use of our PS intellectual property. My work experience prior to HDS involved smaller companies and startups. Those experiences involved direct contact with customers where I developed my keen listening and communication skills. While I found these environments and roles exciting, it was not until I joined HDS that I discovered my passion for KM!
