I believe that a properly designed and implemented Manufacturing Execution System can add tremendous business value to any manufacturer. MES, when done right, will improve operational effectiveness and efficiency and will assist in increased business value for companies from discreet manufacturing to continuous processing.
I am a Divisional manager for Bytes Systems Integration, a Software integration and services company with more than 600 employees. I am responsible for the Process Management and Control (PMC) unit. This business unit focus on MES, and has done so for the past 15 years.
I am responsible for strategy and direction, product and solution development and most of my time is spent doing business development, sales, financial and operations management. I am still very involved in the Operations side of the business, although not as much as I would like to be.
I manage relationships with technology suppliers such as Wonderware, GE Fanuc, InStep, Microsoft and others, as well as with current and potential clients.
I am regarded as a though-leader in my chosen field of MES and have published various articles in the fields of Change Management, Automation and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). My book “Practical E-Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management - ISBN: 9780750662727” was published in July 2004 through Newnes Press.
I have also developed a two-day training course based on this book and presented this course in-house at various clients in South Africa, the UK and Ireland. The book and course material is used as part of the distance learning syllabus for post-graduate Design and Engineering studies at Brunel University, Uxbridge, Middlesex in the UK.
I am frequently asked to present at conferences and to be part of expert panels for the industry. I enjoy business analysis and consulting and take on MES and manufacturing systems consulting projects personally when time allow.
