I have always pursued two complementary goals. First, to learn as much as I can about the diversity of the world. Second, to save and contribute to this diversity.
Learning about the world around me has been breath-taking: I’ve got one undergraduate degree (BA in International Relations), two post graduate degrees (MA in international business and PhD in international economics), mastered three foreign languages (English, Afrikaans and German), and been to four continents.
To save and to contribute to the world’s diversity, I have chosen two paths: economic research and creative writing. In both terrains my efforts have been distinguished with recognized awards: ‘Smart Insignia’ of the humanitarian competition ‘Umniki and Umnitsy’ (First Channel of the Russian TV, 1996), Grand Prix of the International Essay Prize Contest (Weimar, Germany, 1999), medal of the Hugo Grotius international law contest (Moscow, Russia, 2000), Offshore Northern Seas Media Scholarship (Stavanger, Norway, 2004).
Undoubtedly, the most valuable prize for me has always been acquaintance and cooperation with people, who, like me, are confident that it is possible to raise the standards of living without destroying the natural and cultural wealth of our planet. Since both WWF and I share this ideal and actively seek ways to make it real, our ways had kept crossing until they merged.
In the academic field, I am author of over 30 publications on environmental policies, including two monographs.
In the sphere of creative writing, my essays and short stories have been published in seven languages.
