Today’s social, mobile and technically savvy workforce requires process architects who know how to facilitate collaborative work efforts as well as information management systems that provide self-serve access.

As a principal at Kreatek I helped organizations destroy communication and technology barriers and create collaborative communities.

By leveraging social networking tools, building business intelligence solutions and helping transition Information and Technology to a Systems-of-Engagement mindset we are able to help organization grow by tapping the collective wisdom of their constituents.

Project Manager

Kreatek - Protective Life APD
(2 years)

With an existing business relationship I was requested to automate the rollout of printed rate books to thousands of end dealers throughout the US. I pulled together a product development team that stepped up to the plate and created the first ever Microsoft SmartClient application the company had seen.

Two component pieces were simultaneously created using Microsoft’s C#.Net, ASP, SQL Server and Office Excel development frameworks. We designed a system that simply replaced the need to print hardcopy charts and delivered product specs and pricing in a rules based application. Products changes and rollouts took seconds versus weeks to get to the client. Many customer accolades were heard during industry conferences that the product was so successful that during deployment not one technical issue was experienced. With a well-orchestrated team made up of Protective, Kreatek and end client participants we followed standard project management practices to successfully deliver a solution that was marketed as “6 Clicks to a Quote”.

Technologies Used:
MS Excel
SQL Server 2008

BI/DW Contractor

Kreatek - Protective Life APD
(7 years 1 month)

I started Kreatek to launch my contracting career with Protective Life's Asset Protection Division. They needed to consolidate a variety of administration systems they inherited through M&A and settled on a SQL Server / Cognos toolset. I was brought in to architect and build the solution. I successfully created ODS's that served up Cognos analytical cubes and Cognos reports to an intranet portal. I used SQL Server’s DTS ETL services to transfer data from the source systems to a staging area where the data was updated prior to moving to the reporting ODS.

I created many interfaces to other systems, supporting g/l financial reports, commission payments and other third party requirements due to the accuracy and performance of the data warehouse.

I was invited to tour each division office, from Los Angeles to North Carolina, to teach end users how to pull Cognos reports for self-service analytics.

Most important were the relationships developed with business professionals who were passionate about their work. I learned a great deal about insurance products and the business processes that supported the environment.

Technologies Used:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 2008
Cognos Report Services
Cognos Analytic Services

Sr. Vice President (VB, SQL Server)

Xcitek Solutions Plus
(3 years 10 months)

Every once in a while a programmer is given an opportunity to publish their work as a sellable product. When I joined Xcitek Solutions Plus I was given just that. Aligning with a very aggressive business knowledge expert and salesman extraordinaire we built and sold a Corporate Action management system that far exceeded industry expectations.

Armed with ODBC and VB 3 knowledge I was able architect the XSP application as a multi-tiered client server app where a single instance communicated with Oracle, Sybase, DB2 and SQL Server backend databases.

By the time of my departure, the development team grew from 1 to 45 with an additional 10 for QA and client support. The application was upgraded to VB 6 during this same time.

Sr. Consultant

DPAI, Inc.
(2 years 4 months)

As a Senior Consultant with DPAI I was welcomed to their Cognos / C product development team. For Owens Corning Windows and Door manufacturing we developed a cradle-to-grave information and production management system using Cognos's QUIZ, QUICK and QTP 4th GL languages. This was long before Cognos became an analytics player in the BI stack.

I was presented with an opportunity of a life time when they created a micro-platform development / R&D group and requested that I become a member because of my passion for Visual Basic, SQL Server and Event Driven programming. Our first project was for Majestic Steel where we used RAD (rapid application development) as our project strategy and I was tasked to create, in real-time, the user interface while the project coordinator and Majestic employees determined the work items. I was using VB 3.0 with Microsoft’s first incarnation of SQL Server/Sybase (4.21a). I learned real quick that ODBC was by far the fastest method of data integration versus Microsoft’s recommendation of JET.

Operations Manager

Bekaert Group Specialty Wire
(2 years 1 month)

Managed wire manufacturing $20Mil steel coil inventory, production control and logistics. Successfully implemented 1st Generation ERP production & inventory control system that was used as a model throughout the Bekaert family of companies.

Invited to present ERP and Inventory management best practices at the home office in Brussels Belgium.

Active member of the ISO 9001 QA Certification team.

MIS Manager

Klipsch & Associates
(2 years)

Klipsch ranked high as a "Cool" place to work. Where else could you listen to the best home audio speakers in the world while getting paid to manage their IT department?

I had the opportunity to work closely with the accounting department that kept the engineers in check and a production facility that could cut sheets of birch faster and more precise than a surgeon during a heart bypass.

Delivering data to the sound geniuses who designed the speaker units and required production floor test results only added to the misery when I had to resign to move back to Alabama.

I am still a proud owner of Klipsch speakers and one day, my favorite child will inherit them.
