SETI@home was, and I think remains, the largest computation ever performed. At its peak in 2002 500,000 people were providing nearly 100 teraflops of computation per second analysing radio signals from the Arecibo telescope. SETI@home created an entire new category of distributed computing, which we called "volunteer computing".
