Founded in 2001 by George Carlson, a volunteer fire department officer and advanced-technology business consultant, Wildfire Protection Systems has successfully installed hundreds of fire protection systems within the wildland-urban interface. Our customers include private and business property owners, as well as federal, state and foreign fire fighting agencies. Our Wildfire Tested Tough protection systems have saved over 100 structures directly threatened by wildfire.

Our efforts to reduce the threat of wildfire to structures within the wildland-urban interface have resulted in several FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Projects. A Full Mitigation Best Practice Story was conducted by FEMA’s Region 5 after the success of Wildfire Sprinkler® systems during the 2007 Ham Lake Fire .

In May of 2002, George Carlson shared in the prestigious Bronze Smokey Bear Award for his efforts in reducing the threat of wildfire to homes and businesses in Minnesota.

Our goal is to provide wildland urban property owners with superior products and services by developing environmentally friendly innovations and solutions that protect life and property from wildfire.

    Led effort to organize, create and grow the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department, serving as President and founding Fire Chief. The Fire Dept. has become the largest, best trained and equipped, and one of the only full-service fire departments in Cook County, MN. Retired in 2006 as Deputy Fire Chief.

    Successfully secured more than $945,000 to fund fire protection and emergency medical services, equipment and infrastructure within the Gunflint Trail Fire District, with only 16% coming from local funds.

    Convinced Department of Home Security's FEMA to fund first wildfire structure protection system in its history.     From 1993 through 1998 I was retained on a full-time basis supporting Motorola’s iDEN TDMA sector tasked with cost reduction, reducing cycle time and improving the quality of hires of advanced technologists and technical management professionals. I introduced quality metrics into the hiring process within Motorola and helped them craft their World Wide Staffing Strategy. Results of my efforts were as follows:
    • Reduced interview to hire ratio from 5:1 to 1.38:1.
    • Improved hire cycle-time from position definition to employee start date from over 200 days to 58 days.
    • Reduced cost per professional hire from over $10,000 per hire to less than $4,000 per hire.
