Using the internet to change culture
London, United Kingdom
I am a social media entrepreneur and product developer specialising in social innovation, collaboration tools and education. My aim is to promote knowledge-sharing and socialisation within communities through business leadership and the social applications of new technologies.
I began my career building corporate and campaign websites, including the national award-winning "Those Who Can, Teach" campaign site. I have also commissioned and produced interactive applications, rich media and e-learning materials for the media sector, including several storyboard guides to the media industries for Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media Sector. Through my continuing work with Skillset I have been involved in projects with organisations as diverse as Channel 4, BBC, Bournemouth University and the UK Government. I was an editor of the original open-source magazine Pick Me Up.
I now specialise in social technology, business strategy and social enterprise, focussing particularly on online networks and "demand-efficient" business. In 2006 I co-founded the web 2.0 startup The School of Everything, which aims to make education accessible to all, by changing what education means. I am now developing this project as a student at the School for Social Entrepreurs, and have various other social and technological projects in the pipeline. I also started the mental health campaign Mindapples, which aims to use social media to find the mental health equivalent of eating five-a-day.
I believe in social software for social good, and in businesses and public services run in the interests of those who need them most.
