Mr. Moya’s commitment to urban design projects represents his belief in the economic impact of redevelopment projects in urban areas. This idea shaped his concept approach to urban redevelopment and become the initiative for most of his projects. The strategic concept of "Urban Recycling" (Reciclaje Urbano) developed by Mr. Moya provided for an integrated team approach to the development of a balanced, long-term economic model for urban redevelopment projects. This particular model incorporates urban design, architecture, construction, financial planning and community development. Projects developed using this approach have been recognized by federal, state, civic and business organizations with numerous awards for excellence in design.
Before starting MOYA Architects in 1994, Mr. Moya worked for The Hillier Group as Project Architect and Designer (1984-1994). As an associate, he was the architect in charge of design for the firm's Healthcare/R&D Studio. Prior to joining Hillier, Mr. Moya also worked for Henry Horowitz and Associates in Princeton (1982-1984) in a variety of corporate, commercial and health care projects. He later continued his association with Henry Horowitz in joint venture projects under MOYA Architects.
In 2003 MOYA Architects merged with HACBM Architects, Engineers and Planners of Princeton, NJ (2003-2005). Mr. Moya became the firm’s lead architect and Director of Design. There he actively steered the firm’s design direction in urban design and educational projects.
Currently. Mr. Moya is Director of Architecture and Planning for LEEWOOD REAL ESTATE GROUP / NJ, LLC, an old client of MOYA Architects and an award winning real estate development firm with a specialization in urban housing and redevelopment in New York and New Jersey.
Moya’s interest in urban issues has taken him to appointments to the NJ Historic Trust, Trenton Office for Policy Studies, Trenton Enterprise Initiative and Trenton City Home. A design juror and lecturer at NJIT, Rutgers, Princeton and the University of Minnesota, he has written and published work on architecture.
Also noted for his work as an artist, Mr. Moya is a painter of panoramic landscapes and other aesthetic themes similar to his compositional work in architecture and poetry.
