Frouke Wiarda’s Summary

- Open je oren. Elk stukje materiaal is een geluid-producerend mechanisme. Met elk materiaal, papier, hout, staal, water of beton, kun je geluid maken en klinkt wanneer je erop strijkt, timmert of het beweegt. Onze directe omgeving is een uitgangspunt voor improvisatie en creatieve mogelijkheden en vertrekpunt voor een ontdekkingstocht naar de geheimen, oorsprong en ontwikkeling van klank en resonantie. -

I search for hidden sounds. Sounds I never really listened to before, sounds of our own environment. From the city in the fog to rustling wind in the grass of a sports ground. Of making a sandwich and grating brick. I tell their stories by means of sound installations and performances.

Last year (2007) I graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts, Design, Music and Dance, Interfaculty Image and Sound/ArtScience, The Hague, The Netherlands.During my study I have been developing sound sculptures and soundinstruments by improvisation and performances.

I search for wonderful hidden resonances in basic material like wood, steel and concrete. I translate spaces like monuments and barns into stories of sound and image. With different computer software I develop live-compositions and sound structures.

In 2000 I graduated at the Amsterdam School of Arts, Reinwardt Academy, faculty Museology, Museum Communication, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 2001 I started at the Academy of Fine Arts, Design, Music and Dance, The Hague, to study Architectonic Design for one year.
During my studies I performed several activities for a number of cultural institutions like: mime theatre, children’s theatre and cultural manifestations.
