I'm a longtime freelance magazine writer, hard news journalist, investigative reporter, and lately, commentator and sometime advocate on food and environmental topics. I love the narrative writing format, with a heavy dose of character profiles. I've done just about everything in the freelance world, from writing on the Web to speechwriting (I was good at it, but ultimately found that I wanted to inject my own thoughts into the speeches ... not a good practice). Since my book Organic Inc came out in 2006, I've done a lot of public speaking and enjoy that immensely. My work has resonated with professional and business audiences, though I've also enticed consumers with a deep interest in food/environmental topics. If, though my work, I can roll the boulder forward by half an inch, I'm happy.
My nose ... I can sniff out a good story.

My background is in business writing, putting together narrative profiles of companies and people. I love to listen to people tell their stories. Lately, since my book came out in 2006, I've become much more focused on food/agriculture/environmental topics. My daily sketches and musings on these subjects can be found at the ChewsWise blog (see link below) and articles in various publications. I also have a regular gig on the side writing about money matters.
