Director of Marketing & Communication at Asbury College
Lexington, Kentucky Area
The saga continues. I am very blessed to have been promoted to Director of Marketing and Communication. This position will take advantage of my many years experience in marketing, communications, graphic arts, publishing and other related fields. I'm overjoyed to have this opportunity and can't wait to get started.
Above all, being at Asbury College is an amazing blessing. There truly is something special about this place. While you might think it's just me, many folks have said that, when they're on campus, they sense it, too.
It's more than a school – it's a community of brothers and sisters in Christ. Folks look out for one another here in ways you rarely see. A school slogan is, "Come as you are. Leave different," and it is more than mere words.
The most telling indicator is the alumni's deep commitment to the school. Over 1,000 people came to the 100th Reunion in the summer of '08. The attendees included recent grads all the way to a delightful lady 100 years young. Obviously a deep and abiding devotion built through strong community.
I see it in the students I work with daily. Around twenty reported to me as Learning Resources Manager, and every one of them is a sterling individual. They're bright, hard working and have excellent attitudes.
The school has been rated in the top schools in the southeast for many years by U.S. News & World Report. What the report doesn't tell you about – and probably can't – is the community and fellowship here.
For me, Asbury allows me to put my Christian faith into action every day. Faculty, staff and students come here for the functional reasons -- a positive work environment, a quality education, etc. -- and because they want to be in a place that allows them to let their faith be a big part of their daily lives. In some other places I've worked, keeping your spiritual life on a leash was advised. Here at Asbury, your faith in God is accepted, encouraged and shared. It is a special place indeed.
