Fotios is an IT generalist with a keen interest in cybersecurity, Internet applications and embedded development. His particular research interests at the moment include secure networks, models of trust, trusted agents, information exchange, and software development methodologies. He holds a BSc and MSc in Computer Science. In the past he has worked as a freelance consultant and senior developer in the private sector in the UK and has been with the Joint Research Centre for the past 6 years. His recent work has included leading the design, development and final successful deployment of ERCA, the European Root Certification Authority for the Digital Tachograph project. He is currently going through the final stages of his latest project, SecNet-IE, which is a proof-of-concept secure e-platform for Critical Infrastructures Information Exchange.

I work as a systems architect for the SCNI (Security of Critical Networked Infrastructures) action at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. The project I am currently working on is SecNet-IE. SecNet–IE intends to develop a platform for the secure exchange of security–relevant information on European Critical Networked Infrastructures. The exchange will include government and industry stakeholders at an international level (EU). Some models, standards, frameworks and technologies being explored are: SOA, MDR (ISO 11179), FEA (Federal Enterprise Architecture), EDI, ebXML, EDXL, XDI, CAP, Rains-Net. The system is basically a secure P2P network of trusted agents, embedded in Hardware Security Modules. Four early prototypes have been produced and the system is currently in its formal design phase under the control of UP based hybrid software development process.
During my time at the JRC I have also worked on such systems/projects as: EEJ-Net, PIPS, ERCA and MEDI.

March 2002 — July 2003 (1 year 5 months)
During my time with the NKD crew I was the front-end developer for Soq (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soq), an inovative SaaS CMS (software as a system, content management system). During this time I had the opportunity to become a real expert in javascript and IE based development (e.g. ActiveX) and wrote some world-class proprietary code including an xml-driven javascript engine for loading complex web interface elements. I also found several ways to defeat limitations of the browser's offered APIs.
During my time with NKD, I have also created several Flash based components that were routinely used by the company's web developers for building various sites. I have later released some of those as freeware on the Adobe Flash Exchange site (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=productHome&exc=2) - search for "Fotios".
I was also the main developer behind Angus' CPD system: https://cpd.angus.gov.uk/Login.aspx
