Fenton Heirtzler’s Summary

Career objective: I am seeking a long-term industrial, academic or governmental position in either research or research & development and involving materials organic chemistry or heterocyclic chemistry. In the case of an industrial position, I envision this will begin with bench chemistry and continue with my ascent into management.

For academic jobs, A position as Assistant Professor would be gladly acceptable. In the latter context, I seek a balance between research and teaching. International relocation is acceptable and I can spend as much as 33% of my professional time traveling.

Current Research Interests:
• Synthesis of novel oligomeric organic/inorganic materials as n- and p-type semiconductors and photovoltaic devices.
• Self-assembly of nanoscale functional materials.
• Dynamic multi-dimensional proton NMR spectroscopic, X-ray crystallographic and electrospray-mass spectroscopic studies on discrete and polymeric metallo-organic supramolecules.
• Preparation and characterization of potentially liquid crystalline, flat supramolecular complexes.
• Study of hyperbranched metallo-organic fragments that are suitable for energy-transfer, attachment to other electrochemically active fragments and covalent, polymeric inclusion.

Fenton Heirtzler’s Specialties:

• Synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds, e.g. pyrazine and pyridine derivatives
• Prediction of self-assembly patterns by analysis of solid state lattices
Characterization of dynamic behavior in molecules using NMR spectroscopy
• College- and University level education in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry
• Presentations (oral, PowerPoint, chalkboard)
• Writing peer-refereed research papers in the chemical sciences.
• Writing funding proposals in the chemical sciences.
