Evert Bopp (contactevert@gmail.com)’s Summary

I am currently involved in in a number of ventures. Below is a short outline of the different companies:

The Greenhouse is a Limerick based start-up incubator. It's private sector owned and managed resulting in a very result rather than task focused environment. Please visit http://greenhouselimerick.com for more details.

Airappz has developed a captive portal product for use with wifi hotspots and hotzones. We are currently involved in further developing this captive portal, rolling out our testbed network of wifi hotspots, looking for investors and researching the integration of our captive portal with 3G and Wimax networks. Airappz is also a leading provider of wifi services at events & conferences (www.airappz.com).

Wimax EU Ltd. is a SEC-registered company originally founded and registered in the USA. After some restructuring Wimax EU is now being developed as a Wimax "MVNO". It intends to offer ISP and related service via existing Wimax infra-structure across Europe.

Evert Bopp (contactevert@gmail.com)’s Experience

  • Organisor

    Business Camp 09

    (Events Services industry)

    August 2009Present (4 months)

The Greenhouse Business Camp is an free “unconference” for people who are self-employed, starting their own business or thinking about starting their own business. The current economic circumstances have clearly indicated that there is no such thing as a “job for life”. Even the biggest of companies are failing, the financial institutions are in tatters and the public sector is facing mass redundancies. The result of this is that for a lot of people there is only one logical course of action: to start their own business. Once again the SME sector proves to be the backbone of the economy.

  • Founder

    The Greenhouse Incubator

(Venture Capital & Private Equity industry)

    January 2009Present (11 months)

The Greenhouse is a Limerick based new start-up incubator. We aim at early stage ventures. During our 6-month application cycle we provide selected start-ups with all facilities, services and advice needed to develop their product/service and management team.
In exchange the Greenhouse takes a small equity stake in the start-up

  • CEO

    AirAppz

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Wireless industry)

    January 2007Present (2 years 11 months)

AirAppz (802.EU) is a “next generation” mobile Internet & application provider. We have developed a captive portal solution for use with wifi hotspots and hotzones. This captive portal can display targeted location based advertising as well as other location based services. We have also developed a number of web/browser based applications that can be "plugged" into the portal on a modular basis. These applications range from "office type application" to online image editing and online backup for mobile devices.
We also offer a VOIP service that allows voip/wifi to automatically connect and authenticate to a wifi network.
AirAppz is currently rolling out a testbed network of wifi hotspots across Ireland. We will install a wifi hotspot in any suitable location at NO COST to the venue owner.

  • CEO

    Wimax EU Ltd.

(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Wireless industry)

    October 2005Present (4 years 2 months)

Wimax EU intends to establish a pan-European WISP network. We've identified the lack of affordable high quality broadband access in the majority of European countries and intend to fill this gap.
The rollout of broadband across most countries is hampered by the lack of necessary infrastructure, the sometimes bad condition of the existing infrastructure or the monopolization of the infrastructure by a Telecoms co. with no real interest in local loop unbundling.
Wimax EU will bypass these infrastructural problems by implementing a wireless network for the so-called “last mile”. We will use wireless point-to-point connections to bring broadband connectivity to areas where it is currently unavailable. In these areas we will establish nodes from where we can provide broadband access to customers in the area.

  • Organiser

    Bizcamp Limerick

    (Non-Profit Organization Management industry)

    January 2009March 2009 (3 months)

Bizcamp is a free conference/ gathering which is happening in Limerick on Saturday 21st March. The venue is the Kemmy Business School on the University of Limerick campus.

    Seriously - what is it?

It’s a chance for us all to lift ourselves out of the gloom of the endless bad news stories. It’s based on the fact that each of us as entrepreneurs have loads to learn from our peers. And we have a lot to share with them as well. There are a lot of great things happening in the Irish Economy - especially in small and medium businesses and this day will be a celebration of those. And a great place to come for people who have lost their jobs and are actively looking at starting up.

    It’s free, whats the catch?

You take the main cost of a “proper” conference away (the flown in experts) and get sponsors to cover the venue and misc other expenses. And then people starting and running their own businesses gather on the day and a number of them/you/us will give short talks on things which we know or have learned which will be valuable to share with the others.

Great idea, it will never actually work

This is based on the Barcamp concept which started in the US and has now being used in every continent in the world. In Ireland there have been 11 held since September 2006 - each of them successful. Click here for a full listing of those.

Ok, kinda interested now. Why haven’t I heard of this before now?

Because the Irish camps to date have been almost exclusively focused on the technology community and promoted within that sector. This is the first to be held which focuses on all businesses and it will be especially of interest to any and all entrepreneurs who want to build Irish businesses which can compete internationally.

  • Event organiser

    (Irish) Open Coffee Club BBQ

    (Events Services industry)

    March 2008June 2008 (4 months)

The event, the first of its kind, is a spin-off from the Open Coffee Club meetings taking place in Limerick’s Absolute Hotel every first Thursday of the month.
Open Coffee Club meetings are informal "gatherings" of entrepreneurs, start-ups, investors and anybody with an interest in business and technology to tell their story, discuss topics, exchange points of view, do deals and generally have a good, relaxing time. They are invaluable networking events for people to meet in.
There will be facilities for people who would like to demo their product or service or who would like to give a short talk about a specific subject. There is also sufficient room for spontaneous break-out sessions to develop. People who would like to learn more about the internet & technology industry in Ireland or meet some of the successful entrepreneurs are particularly welcome.

Full details are available from the website: http://www.opencoffeeclub-bbq.com
