I consider myself to be a general technologist. I believe I am very good with a lot of technologies and I enjoy learning new ones, however I'm not really a specialist at any particular product.
I've worked with the Oracle database, development tools, and ERP Applications, but I have focused primarily on web technology. I worked in pre-sales at Oracle, but I left to get deeper into the technical side of the spectrum at an internet company. I got to do and learn everything there; I was the systems architect, systems administrator (Windows, Solaris, Linux), DBA (Oracle), developer (ASP, VB, Javascript, Oracle Stored Procedures), web designer (Photoshop), etc. It was a great experience, but it didn't last due to the internet bubble.
I then worked for a financial company, Pacific Life. I did mostly database (Oracle/SQL Server) development and VB 6 client applications, but I was also able to work with other technologies. I made a major enhancement to an ASP with AJAX application and I created a website for a business Partner using ASP. This particular project was outside of my role, but I was asked to create it due to my previous experience.
In addition, I created a VB.Net application that manages Windows services in coordination with a job scheduling application. And I completed a C# training course.
I was also the backup Oracle/SQL Server DBA for 3 years. I helped with the routine day to day tasks and became the primary DBA whenever the primary DBA was on leave.
Lastly, I was involved in an extremely large project. It was a .Net SOA application that is being built to replace the aging financial systems.
Most recently, I became a web developer for Quest Software. I am doing mostly Oracle development with a ASP/.Net front end for the internal HR system and Employee Self Service (ESS) system. I really enjoy the work and the environment at Quest and I am very fortunate to be here.
I have experience in many different industries (tech, automotive, health, and financial services). However, my strength lies in my creativity in solving business problems with technology. I am not a traditional programmer and I believe my experiences have helped me see the bigger picture of things and how they can come together.
