Evan Sims’s Summary

Specializes in developing unique and innovative user experiences using social technologies, such as massively multiplayer games and Internet-based social networks. Strong believer in using technology as a catalyst for social experiences. I hope to end up in an industry that can support these ideas, such as gaming or web applications, and that I can play a part in fostering the development of technologies that support deeper social interaction. I am also a strong believer in web standards, and designing with a "build once, render anywhere" attitude.

For the web, I have extensive experience with PHP and MySQL, XHTML and CSS, JavaScript and AJAX, Perl and ASP as well as developing and building upon existing platforms and APIs. Strong grasp of web standards and platform independence strategies.

On the desktop, I have experience with DirectX, OpenGL, Visual Studio, C++, Visual Basic, C# and the Microsoft XNA Framework. Likewise, I'm familiar with several 3D modeling programs, and have experience with a number of video game level design applications (extensive experience with NWN and NWN2's toolset.)

My most recent project, Squawk, is a tool that bridges the 3D world Second Life with social networking services like Twitter and del.icious. It has received some great reaction from the community and was featured on Read/Write Web as one of the top 10 Twitter tools (it came in as #2!), and Mashable! as one of the top 20 "coolest Jaiku tools". The project was recently aquired by a social networking firm.

    August 1996Present (12 years 3 months)

I have been offering web design, programming and computer repair services under my domain moniker since 2000, and freelancing prior to that since the mid 90s. I've honed my skills over the decade I've been in business, always following the latest technologies and developments of my industry.

I've been blogging on and off since 2000, where I have been covering technology news and providing tutorials on web design, programming and working with platforms and web APIs.

    Nijikon Industries (Second Life) (Self-employed)

(Self-Employed; Myself Only; Information Technology and Services industry)

    March 2007August 2007 (6 months)

Nijikon Industries was the name my virtual identity Vincent Shore operated business under in Second Life. Nijikon specialized in gadgets and technologies that bridged the 3D virtual world with popular web services. Squawk was our first project, a "social aggregator" that bound Second Life to Twitter, Jaiku, del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia.

Squawk and the rest of Nijikon's assets were acquired in August 2007 by a social networking firm.
