I've spent my entire professional life so far in basic biological research. However, in 2002 I took a valuable step towards the hospital setting. I now run research labs in two separate but collaborative hospital environments: Necker Children's Hospital in Paris, France, and Purpan Hospital in Toulouse, France. We study congenital malformations and how to improve care, diagnosis and genetic counseling. Both of my labs are underwritten by the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM: Institut National de la Sante et la Recherche Medicale). We are also supported by the American National Institute of Health as a collaborator of a laboratory at Duke University, and have been supported additionally by private foundations, a French complementary health insurance group, and by numerous patient advocacy groups. I am interested in making connections with partners in biotechnology or industrial diagnostics in order to improve patient quality of life by understanding the molecular underpinnings of the rare diseases we study in my labs.
I study neurocristopathies - a wide range of diseases due to problems in the development, proliferation, death or differentiation of embryonic neural crest cells in humans.
