Wikimedia publishes the world-famous Wikipedia encyclopedia and other free knowledge projects. Wikipedia is a top-10 web site with millions of unique visitors per day (4000 article requests per second !!)
I volunteered part-time as member of the developer team.
Major projects:
1., 'WikiStats' which analyzes growth patterns on 700+ wikis and publishes reports in 25 languages : See http://stats.wikimedia.org
2., EasyTimeline: I extended the wiki concept by inventing a wiki-way to compose charts. Since years an integral and very popular part of the Mediawiki code base. See http://infodisiac.com/Wikipedia/EasyTimeline/Introduction.htm
3., Wikipedia as TomeRaider ebook for notebooks and handhelds. Do you want to carry almost 2 million unabridged articles wherever you go, on a 5 gram 4 Gb memory card? I built a very complete wiki parser to convert a Wikipedia project to ebook format. See http://infodisiac.com/Wikipedia

Preparatory high school with physics, chemistry, math, biology, 4 modern and 2 classic languages and then some. Back in the old days when all courses were mandatory. I loved Homer, I hated Greek.
My major private interest is Wikipedia, where I got involved in 2002, when it was an obscure top-100000 web site. Now it is a top-10 web site with millions of unique visitors every day, and a household name, almost as well-known as Google. See also experience section.
