Currently writing both fiction and non-fiction books. The fiction includes the Ray Sharp series of detective thrillers, set in Asia and based on stories I covered or know from the 11 years I spent living and working as a journalist in the region. The first book in the series is THE LIVING ROOM OF THE DEAD, it's based on a sad true tale of the Russian trade in women to Asia. The second book, coming out this September, is GRAVE IMPORTS. It's based on the facts of the trade in stolen Cambodian antiquities. Book three, FLIGHT OF THE HORNBILL will be out this fall, and book four SHANGHAIED, in fall 2009.
My only non-fiction book, so far, is WRONG SIDE OF THE WALL, the true crime / sports biography of Ralph "Blackie"Schwamb, the greatest prison baseball player of all time.
Over the years I've worked as a journalist (and editor of a number of publications) covering topics ranging from politics to the arts, economics to sex. I've worked extensively in both Asia and the U.S. I also started up and ran my own small regional publishing company based in Hong Kong. ASD Publishing Ltd. produced a glossy magazine called Prospects, on the subject of sustainable economic development; as well as several high end newsletters on environmental law, finance and tourism.
I've also worked as a publishing consultant for clients such as The World Bank in Indonesia, Caltex-Pacific Indonesia, the Regional Institute of Environmental Technology in Singapore and Futures Communications Group in New York and Chicago.
I intend to keep writing books, both fiction and non-fiction, and the occasional magazine article. I also hope to be involved in more publishing projects, both book and periodical, as a consultant.
Writing, research, big picture editing (I'm not a particularly good line editor or copy editor), juggling correspondents, creating business plans for publications, public speaking on a wide range of topics, particularly having to do with my books and my work in Asia.
