Eric Ly's Summary
I am passionate about combining innovative products, technologies and business models to create highly successful companies. Presdo.com has been my passion for the last couple years, which has been to create consumer Internet products that have wide appeal to everyday users.
Prior to that, I was a co-founder at LinkedIn, where I served as its founding CTO and VP of Desktop products. I worked with a talented team to enable professionals to connect in fundamentally better ways with each other online. (Since you're on this site, you know the rest!) Not only did I create some core components of the service, I also led the desktop product team to create several successful desktop products that bring the value of LinkedIn closer to users' everyday. I helped the company achieve a rapidly-growing user base and profitability.
I'm an experienced entrepreneur who has seen a lot about what succeeds and what doesn't, and cares a lot about building great companies. There are a lot of important ingredients. You can ask me what they are if you're curious.
Social media, internet business models, great products

Eric Ly's Education
PhD, Computer Science
1993 – 1994
MS, Media Arts and Sciences
1991 – 1993
I did research into intelligent agents and speech user interfaces and combined machine learning with both IVR and speech recognition user interfaces to develop learning, talking computers and devices. My masters thesis was titled "Chatter: a conversational telephone agent". I learned a great deal from my thesis advisers: Chris Schmandt, Pattie Maes, and Candy Sidner.
BS, Symbolic Systems
1987 – 1991
My major combined computer science, cognitive science, linguistics and philosophy with a concentration in artificial intelligence. I spent my time at Stanford writing science for the Stanford Daily, did research in exotic areas of artificial intelligence and cognitive science, and created the well-known educational software Tarski's World on the NeXT platform (now MacOS Cocoa). I became interested in HCI, working with professor Terry Winograd, who had a large influence on my interests in computer science. I graduated from my major with Distinction.
