January 2008 — November 2008 (11 months)
I recently finished an apprentice program with MTV News and the Knight Foundation called Street Team ’08. I was selected to be the Washington, DC correspondent for the team and submitted weekly multimedia stories on issues facing young people.
I went undercover to the Quantico Brig for a series about Marine desertion. I was embedded with a group of College Republicans and sent to Minneapolis/St. Paul where I aired live mobile-to-web reports from the Convention floor. On Election Night in November, I carried the Street Team torch and appeared live on Associated Press’s Election Night web cast.
I conducted all aspects of news gathering and production. I researched stories, called sources, wrote copy, blogs and captions, appeared on camera and marketed all of my pieces through social network sites ranging from DIGG to Facebook to Twitter.
