Director, teacher, and subject matter expert, Alain Robillard-Bastien, possesses over 15 years experience in the field of usability, e-learning, and new media. His current focus lies in user-centered design, eye tracking evaluation, and the implementation of UCD & Agile methodology for large projects. Alain demonstrates strong skills in expert review of Web sites, intranets and software interfaces, as well as in laboratory and remote usability testing of various interactive products, including mobile phones. He is fluent in both French and English.
Alain holds a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences from the Université de Montréal with a specialization in Multimedia. He has worked for a variety of companies and public bodies, including the CRIM (Computer Research Institute of Montreal, where he still teaches ergonomics to professionals), DynEc, and Ideactif.
Alain is the former president of the Montréal chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA). He was one of the main organizers of the 2005 UPA International Conference, held in Montreal. He was chairman of the UPA 2008 Conference that was held in Baltimore in June 2008. He has recently been elected on the board of the UPA.
Alain has also published various works for a variety of books and magazines that touch on the subject of delivering successful Web site projects and the importance of offering a pleasant online user experience. His most notable works have been published in “L’intranet dans tous ses états” (2005), the American magazine “User Experience” (Fall 2004), and “Réussir un projet de site Web” (First edition: 2003; fifth updated edition published in 2009). He has been interviewed numerous times by Canadian and French specialized TV shows, as well as local magazines and newspapers, including “La Presse” and “Le Devoir”.
