Research Fellow in Social Ethics at University of Wales, Newport
United Kingdom
I recently completed my PhD in philosophy at the University of St Andrews. My work focuses on the theoretical foundations of liberalism; in particular, I'm interested in the legitimacy and justification of political authority, in the accommodation of ethical diversity, and in the intersection between those two sets of issues.
I joined the Newport Social Ethics Research Group (SERG) in the spring of 2007, whilst writing up my thesis. I now work on EuroEthos, an international and interdisciplinary research programme funded by the European Commission (Framework Programme 6), as well as on my own research projects. So I'm currently writing on modus vivendi, political liberalism, justificatory liberalism, the capability approach, rule and exception procedures for the adjudication of ethical controversies, slippery slope arguments, and a few other issues I can't remember just now.
