Emily Dunkel’s Summary

I completed my Ph.D. in Physics in 2008 at Harvard, specializing in theoretical condensed matter physics, and have a B.S. from UCLA in Chemical Engineering. I spent last year as a postdoctoral fellow at UT Austin conducting research in theoretical chemical physics. I am currently looking for a job in the San Francisco or Los Angeles area, using my skills in mathematical modeling and computation.

Emily Dunkel’s Specialties:

Theoretical and computational physics, mathematical modeling, scientific programming, numerical methods, software development. Experienced in Matlab, Fortran, Mathematica, and Unix. Some experience with C++.

Emily Dunkel’s Experience

  • Postdoctoral Fellow

    University of Texas at Austin

    (Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)

    January 2008December 2008 (1 year)

Investigated the role of quantum modes in spectroscopy of large molecules using analytical techniques and computational experiments in Matlab.

  • Physics Graduate Student

    Harvard University

    (Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)

    September 2001November 2007 (6 years 3 months)

Developed a novel approach to model quantum dynamics in systems with environmental coherences, combining path integral techniques and Monte Carlo sampling of density matrix elements. Implemented this method in Fortran. Worked with an experimental group to model material properties of antiferromagenets near a quantum critical point, using quantum field theoretical techniques and Matlab.

  • Environmental Geophysics Intern

    Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

(Government Agency; 5001-10,000 employees; Research industry)

    June 1999August 1999 (3 months)

Performed gas flow calculations and programmed in Visual Basic to set up chemical release schedules.

  • Engineering Intern

    Chevron

(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; CVX; Oil & Energy industry)

    June 1998August 1998 (3 months)

Designed water flow patterns for oil fields. Collaborated directly with engineers and technicians to collect data.
