Internet Marketing Executive and Entrepreneur
San Francisco Bay Area
I've successfully founded and exited several start-ups and now am part of UpTake.com, focused on the "long tail" of travel. I also founded a new blog CNReviews.com, which aims to bridge East and West on key areas of cultural differences, entrepreneurship, travel, and social media.
Entrepreneurship: venture-backed start-up experience, select angel investing
Acquisition: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), word of mouth, social media marketing (SMM)
Conversion: e-commerce, multi-channel marketing
Engagement: Online community, loyalty & retention strategy

March 2007 — Present (1 year 8 months)
I'm currently at UpTake.com, a new travel search application that helps people figure out where to go, what to do, and where to stay--all based on the aggregate word-of-mouth on the Web about travel. We've collected and analyzed over 20 mm facts and opinions about travel, and am in the process of building the biggest travel database. Lots of cool stuff about this venture: semantic analysis, lots of data and collective intelligence, search, crazy Russian natural language scientist who is into caving...
On the side, I founded CNReviews.com, a group blog about the China blogosphere, independent China travel, China entrepreneurship, and cultural differences...all in the hopes of building bridges and greater understanding between East and West.
