B.A., Professional Writing, Visual Communication, 1989 — 1995
CMU's BA in Professional Writing is granted through their Rhetoric program. That is, it is focussed on analyzing the audience for a particular communication, and customizing the presentation of that information so that the information will be readily accepted by the audience. While not as scientifically oriented as the B.S. in Technical Writing degree, it is more applied to clear communications in a professional setting.
The minor in Visual Communication is earned through a course concentration in CMU's design department. Coursework includes graphic design, industrial design, color usage, and typography skills.
College Preparatory 1985 — 1989

The JHU CTY (http://cty.jhu.edu/) seeks K-12 students of high academic ability and provides educational opportunities to meet their needs. I attended a series of summer writing courses at the center's Carlise, PA location. Each was three weeks long and met for several hours each day. The intent was to provide students with the equivalent of a semester long writing course at the college level. Each course gave me extensive experience and instruction in writing that was significantly above my grade level in school.
