Digital Media and I/T Executive
Greater Los Angeles Area
After graduating from the University of Michigan, I moved to LA and have spent my entire 30-year career in Southern California. While I began my career in the Aerospace industry, the bulk of the first half of my career was in financial services - first joining IBM's LA Banking office, and then spent over (10) years with First Interstate Bank and then Security Pacific Bank.
The last half of my career has been in Media & Entertainment having worked at 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, and then became the CIO at MGM. As CIO, I rebuilt MGM's IT organization which then developed and implemented a critical corporate-wide system that resulted in a nomination for a Computerworld/Smithsonian Award - a first for any Hollywood Studio.
Since leaving MGM I have been on the Systems Integration/vendor side of the business starting both TCS' (TATA Consultancy Services) Global M&E Practice and then HCL Technologies' Global M&E Practice. For many years I was the only Global Practice Head in TCS not based in India. When I started at TCS in 2002, we had (3) M&E clients generating over $12MM in revenue/year. Within (2) years - every major Hollywood Studio was a client. When I left in 2008, TCS had (35) clients generating over $120MM in revenue/year across (7) industry sub-segments/micro-verticals (Hollywood, Music, Publishing, Broadcast Network, Cable Network, Business Information Services, and New Media).
While focusing on the full breadth of technology offerings for the M&E industry at both TCS and HCL - my passion and in-depth expertise is in the area of Digital/Online Media and in particular in establishing a wide eco-system of partners and industry thought leaders to develop and provide solutions to help content companies establish digital media business models that scale and are as frictionless/cost effective as possible.
Global I/T and Media Executive with deep skills in all aspects of I/T from both the industry side (former M&E CIO) and the Services/Consulting/Outsourcinig side (Global M&E Practice/Solutions Head), strong skill set in Business & Technology Transformation, I/T Governance, Sourcing strategies and models, and deep expertise in online media - business models and digital infrastructure, excellent personal network that cuts across industry executives, suppliers, start-ups and thought leaders

2008 — February 2009 (1 year)
As Global VSG Head - my team and I were responsible for supporting all medium/large opportunities that required domain knowledge and the building/proposing of specific M&E solutions. The other aspect of my responsibilities was to develop solutions/frameworks/offerings to take to market. My team developed Content 2.0, IMPACT (a Rights Management/ERP/DAM solution leveraging SAP, SAP's IPM, and Opentext's/Artesia's DAM). I was personally involved in developing our stratetic relationship with National TeleConsultants (NTC) to provide a family of solutions for the Broadcast/Cable industry.

Responsible for leading and building from scratch the newly established Media and Entertainment Practice for this Global Software Services company - the largest in India - the inventor of the Indian Global I/T industry. In 2002 TCS had (3) M&E clients generating over $12MM in Revenue. Within (2) years - every major Hollywood Studio was a client. In 2008, TCS had (35) clients in (7) industry sub-segments/micro-verticals (Hollywood Studios, Publishers, Broadcast Networks, Cable Networks, Music Companies, Information Service Providers, and New Media companies) that generated over $120MM in revenue.

I served as CIO at a critical juncture in the life of this fabled Hollywood studio - the decision had just been made to resurrect and rebuild this Entertainment icon. James Bond movies had not been made in over 10 years.
We not only rebuilt the I/T organization - but that rebuilt organization built STARS - a Sales Tracking and Rights Availability System that solved a major business problem which was to manage the entire library of MGM's Movie & TV assets that was critical to the upcoming sale of the studio. While doing this - we also put laptops in sales people's hands which had never previously been done in Hollywood. While the goal was clear from a business perspective - along the way we were nominated for a Computerworld/Smithsonian award - no Hollywood Studio had ever received such an accolade (accolades are for making movies - not I/T systems).
One of the people I brought with me from Paramount who was instrumental in this effort is today MGM's CIO.
