A post-production professional with global video expertise, Ed McNichol started his career as a Motion Picture Specialist (84C) editing film and video in the U.S. Army in 1982. A Philadelphia native, his career has brought him from California to Oregon, and through Anchorage, Alaska, to his current home in Seattle, Washington.
He most recently was the Post-Production Supervisor at the University of Washington and the ResearchChannel. In this role, he designed and managed innovative workflows and technologies that provided post-production services to the University. His department consistently produced high-quality media and generated up to $600,000 in annual revenue.
A recognized expert in his field, Ed taught at the Sony Video Institute for eleven years. He traveled the world teaching video editors and technical directors how to expertly operate Sony’s broadcast line of switchers, mixers and edit controllers. He also demonstrated Sony’s products to many high-profile clients and at numerous trade shows and events, including the National Association of Broadcasters convention. Ed also assisted in the development of many of products for Sony and other manufacturers.
His articles on video post-production have appeared in many professional trade publications, including Post, TV Technology, Video Systems and HighDef. His firm, EDcetera, has edited numerous pieces for clients such as Microsoft, Nintendo, Starbucks and many more. He also provides consulting services to a wide variety of clients. An Apple Certified Professional, Ed is proficient in Final Cut Studio, OS X Server and Xsan. He has been a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
