I'm a nerd who loves people. I've been coding since I was five (professionally since I was 15) and give people hugs on sight. I probably wrote the first layman's description of MP3 and have gotten in trouble with a wide variety of folks, including Stanford Network Security and the Hillsborough Police Department. I like to bring people together for dialogue and parties. Often both. I like to start things and then let those more qualified than I operate them. I enjoy giving talks or advice, particularly when I'm sure that the result will be that I can save someone a year of making the same mistakes I have.

I'm happy to help advise you in any way and am pretty easy to reach. I'll enjoy meeting you. I'll try to help you. That's the Silicon Valley way. I won't expect a favor in return, but I will expect you to help someone else.

I also enjoy travel; I've been around the world in 18 days, have taught technology to over 100 kids in Ghana, reported on CES and Comdex for the Korean media, and ran research surveys on GMOs in Sweden. I'm a certified Rescue Scuba Diver and have over 60 hours logged as an R-22 helicopter pilot.

My dream is to start a University at which students can learn by making amazing things happen and teaching each other. I also hope to serve in the political arena some day, though not as a career -- like the Founding Fathers, I think all (semi?) competent people should spend a few years in government.

Independently conceived, designed, wrote, and edited four company-wide technology newsletters designed to keep Legato aware of market developments and technological advances relevant to our field. Started a weekly brainstorming session on technological hurdles the company must face and on how to face them. Created automated documentation engine, assisted innumerable people in code development, contributed ideas and inspiration to many groups. Flew to several other development sites to help coordinate and unify development efforts. Youngest member to ever sit on the Engineering Council or join the architecture group.

With one other person, created the world's most graphically and technically advanced hit counter, the first to ever use realtime transparency in its graphic rendering, and the first third-party solution to deliver statistics on referring pages through a Javascript hack of our own invention. This product, Hitometer, is still in use today by millions of websites. Researched the automated creation of animated banner ads.
