Derek Van Oss' Summary

For 14 years I've been working as a highly skilled, multi-disciplined designer/developer with a passion for challenging standards, pushing technology and forward thinking strategy in developing user experiences that inform, engage, inspire and ultimately champion the user.

I'm also a skilled front-end developer (HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, etc.) and back-end developer (LAMP Stack).

I have a passion for BOTH development and design. I'm a 50/50 split of left brain-right brain.

I primarily work as a contractor/freelancer...why?

Because variety is the spice of life. Being a contractor has allowed me to see the world, and see the inner-workings of over a dozen companies and industries and how they differ in their design methodologies. What's important to one industry, might not not even be a thought or concern to another.

From healthcare clients to fashion...Entertainment to Insurance...Telecom to Taxes.

Contracting has given me the opportunity to explore and develop a unique perspective. It's a fast-paced lifestyle which often demands working on projects that are in *crisis-mode*. "Hire some contractors! We need help!" they say - and in I come, ready to roll up my sleeves to help put out the fires and patch the holes.

I'm not against permanent/salary positions...it just needs to be the right fit for us both.
