Before his election to Parliament, Duncan was a senior management consultant with over 10 years of experience, who for 6 years served on the board of a business-focussed government agency with a £200m annual turnover.
A Chartered Management Accountant (qualified with CIMA), he had practised as a management consultant independently since 2005, specialising in finance and governance in the public sector. Previously, for nearly 6 years he worked for Deloitte in their UK Strategy and Operations practice, developing a particular competence in finance and performance management.
In 2003 he joined the board of the South West of England Regional Development Agency, where he served for 2 years as the Audit Committee Chairman. He was a central member of the board sub-group focussing on renewable energy and the agency's innovative Wave Hub project.
