Over 30 years programming in a variety of languages and environments, now specialising in Drupal-based social networking websites.
Over 20 years experience writing for the technology and science industries communicating complex technical subjects, plus practical sales and PR expertise.
To be honest, I've done a lot.
My original training was as a computer programmer, and I was involved in "Computing and the Blind" project for the Open University and RNIB. I was creating a music writing package which, if the project had continued, would have changed history. But it didn't so it didn't.
From there I went to write for computer magazines at Database Publications which evolved into Europress Publications. I moved up to Editor fairly rapidly and stayed there for 13 years.
During this part of my career I was still programming: I wrote one version of the Fun School series (Europress Software). I wrote for the Apple Mac as well.
I then started up my own publishing company, Tau Press, doing a computer magazine and a beautifully designed but ill-fated magazine called Visions. We worked with Mentorn TV on the Robot Wars TV show subscription magazine that went very well. At this time I was also selling the advertising. Tau Press merged operations with Quest Creative and went done the contract magazine and full service agency avenue.
Meanwhile I was still writing and programming then moved into web site creation.
Tau Press split from Quest Creative and we went our separate ways, I moved into writing web content and editing books (not a pleasant job). By chance I had the opportunity to learn the Drupal CMS framework and then discovered that skill to be in high demand.
So I switched back to programming full time.
And I'm writing TV scripts too, with lots of encouraging feedback from industry professionals, a possible commission from the BBC and being shortlisted for the most prestigious TV writing competition in the UK.
