Dr Rifai is the Medical Director of Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management for St Joseph Mercy Oakland. He is both board certified by, and a member of the Board of Directors of, the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists as well as board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
He is a highly respected clinical expert in the management of body weight and the consequences of lifestyle - particularly type 2 diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol disorders. As such, Dr Rifai is presently completing a comprehensive, web-based, one hour course on the management of Metabolic Syndrome (aka "pre-diabetes") for Harvard Medical School, which will be available online late 2010.
In 2008 Dr Rifai served as the Associate Medical Director for the world renown Pritikin Longevity Center and currently still serves on their Scientific Advisory Board. He was consistently assessed as one of the most dynamic, compelling and enjoyable lecturers while at Pritikin. He still provides professional public relation roles for the Pritikin, most recently on the nationally syndicated FOX TV "Mike and Juliet" show (see "Media" section at: www.drtomrifai.com)
Dr Rifai has designed a comprehensive, gourmet health menu available at the 11 gourmet Andiamo restaurants in Detroit (“Andiamo Lean” – see: www.andiamoitalia.com) and is also working intensively with the 15,000 student Warren Consolidated Schools system to launch a truly healthy lunch program in the fall of 2010 beginning in one of their main high schools.

Direct intensive multidisciplinary care medical program including RD's, Chefs, PhD's, Nursing, PT's and other health educators. Program includes individual clinical management and counseling and advanced classes for patients (called "Lifestyle University"). Also work in partnership with bariatric surgeons to assist in select cases to pre-operatively evaluate and post-operatively long term monitor for bariatric surgery. See select cases for undernutrition (e.g., anorexia). Public speaking and media interviews on health topics representing hospital and the Metabolic Nutrition/Weight Management program.
