At a time when America's ability to compete in emerging high tech markets of the 21st century is of national strategic importance, I am committed to create, implement & sustain science education programs of national rank, and across the grade K-16 pipeline, that have the ability to both inspire and educate the next generation. Programs engage entire communities - grade K-12 students, their teachers and families.
See: http://ncesse.org/overview
Programs reflect NCESSE's fundamental belief that 'it takes a community to educate a child...and a network of communities to reach a generation.'
Success requires effectiveness in:
1. Fundraising for education programs: federal unsolicited/solicited grants & contracts, w/ awards of $500K-$1.6M; philanthropic giving from foundations/individuals, w/ awards of $200K-$500K; and fundraising on behalf of communities w/ sub-awards to NCESSE.
2. Coalition building: organizing a sustainable group of education stakeholders in a community for program definition, fundraising & implementation.
3. Supporting a network of 'learning communities.'
4. Maintaining strong relationships with both science research & science education communities, engaging individuals/organizations at nat'l, regional & local levels.
5. Reaching underserved communities...to ensure there is only one America. NCESSE program heritage is with inner city & rural communities.
6. Designing programs whose hallmarks are excellence in:
-community-wide delivery by: customizing to a community's strategic needs in STEM education, delivering systemically & designing for sustainability.
-elevating scientists/engineers as heroes & role models by actively engaging them in programs, selecting those gifted at talking to diverse audiences.
7. Managing a dedicated team whose creativity I actively seek, respect & recognize; where communication is of utmost importance; & roles/responsibilities are clearly defined.
