Dr J.A. Lawson is sinds 1983 chirurg met als aandachtsgebied arteriële en veneuze vaatchirurgie. ( gecertificeerd door de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vaatchirurgie)
Hij studeerde medicijnen in Utrecht en Amsterdam. Hij werd opgeleid tot algemeen chirurg in het Zuiderziekenhuis en het Academisch ziekenhuis te Rotterdam. Specialisatie in de vaatchirurgie vond plaats in het Antoniusziekenhuis te Nieuwegein Hij promoveerde in 1985 te Amsterdam met het proefschrift : De voorbewerkte menselijke navelstrengvene als overbruggingstransplantaat in het femoro- popliteale en femoro-crurale traject. Van 1987 tot 1993 was hij werkzaam als vaatchirurg in het Slotervaartziekenhuis te Amsterdam. Vanaf 1993 is hij vaatchirurg in het ziekenhuis Amstelland te Amstelveen en sinds 2006 tevens als vaatchirurg werkzaam in het Medisch Centrum Jan van Goyen, waar hij zich met name zal bezig houdt met de endoveneuze behandeling van spataderen. Vanaf 1 januari 2009 opereert hij ook 1 dag per week in het Flebologisch Centrum Alkmaar
Dr Lawson is lid van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vaatchirurgie en de European Society of Vascular Surgery
