Dr. Dan Rae, D.C., MUAC's Summary

Dr. Dan Rae, D.C. became interested in chiropractic during his undergraduate years at Brigham Young University after serving a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Brazil Salvador South Mission. His wife was expecting their second child and was suffering severe back pain. They sought the help of a chiropractor, and Dr. Rae was intrigued by the hands-on approach and with the results. Dr. Rae started his private practice inside UCR Health Centers, in Chandler, Arizona in May of 2009.

Unlike other doctors of chiropractic who believe that the patient must get adjusted several times per week to remain healthy, Dr. Rae believes that by balancing out the function of the 650 muscles in the body, that the 210 bones have a much better chance of staying aligned and therefore need less frequent adjustments. Dr. Rae believes that he is succeeding when his patients don't need to come into the office regularly.

What is chiropractic all about? Do you think it requires regular treatments for the rest of your life? Is the doctor's sole focus the spine? Just as there are many different types of medical doctors, Dr. Dan Rae, D.C. will introduce you to a new approach in chiropractic.

It is true that we all want quantity and quality life. We want to live as long as we can and we also want our quality of life to be sustained through those years. The options to achieve these goals are innumerable. From medical doctors and pharmaceuticals to acupuncturists and naturopathic doctors, the spectrum of choices can be overwhelming. In information age of today it is hard to keep up on all the possible health remedies.

What you need is a health coach. A doctor that will take the time to listen and have the knowledge to direct you to the best option for your care. A doctor that will inform you about the risks and rewards of your treatment options and not force a treatment on you. Dr. Rae is well trained and has focused his practice around being that person for you. An office visit with Dr. Rae includes about twenty minutes of face-to-face time. The initial exam with Dr. Rae last about from one hour to determine the exact cause, not just the symptoms, of your condition. Dr. Rae is always willing to refer his patients to the appropriate specialists when treatment call for such. Dr. Rae will make sure that if he cannot help you directly with his treatments, he will definitely find you someone who can.

Revitalizing Massage Therapy

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

Massage therapy is an excellent way to increase circulation to muscles and other soft tissue. It also helps to relax muscles, relieve stress and revitalize the body. There are several different types of massage, the type you have will depend on what your body needs. A Swedish massage involves long strokes and kneading motions to alleviate muscle tension from stress. A sports massage is designed to stretch certain muscles to enhance athletic performance and speed up recovery, and a deep tissue massage is designed to exactly what it is called, to get deep into the muscle to break up trigger points that may be restricting range of motion or even causing pain.

Why seek Massage Therapy Care?

Massage therapy is a good way to relieve discomfort and stress you may have from simply doing daily tasks or exercise. Massage therapy can improve mobility as well as decrease muscle tension. It will increase blood flow to facilitate the healing process and relieve your pain.

Invigorating Physiotherapy Modality

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

Physiotherapy modalities are described as the application of mechanical and/or electrical forces to an area of the body in orderPhysical Therapy Chandler to enhance its function and/or healing process.

Some of CHANDLER CHIROPRACTIC & SPORTS THERAPY'S physiotherapy modalities include:

1. The Use of Heat in Physiotherapy

Limitation of motion is one of the major areas of concern in rehabilitation. One of the most important goals in physiotherapy is the restoration of your full range of motion (ROM) to maximize function. Heat has proven advantageous in relaxing and loosening up connective tissue for further treatment.

Please consult Dr. Rae for proper utilization of heat therapy.

2. The Use of Ice

Ice is one of the simplest, safest, and most effective self care techniques for injury, pain, or discomfort in muscles and joints. At CHANDLER CHIROPRACTIC & SPORTS THERAPY we use ice to decrease swelling, tissue damage, blood clot formation, inflammation, muscle spasms, and pain. As stated before, ice is an often over utilized form of treatment, and Dr. Rae can properly instruct you on the proper usage of ice.

3. Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation, also called EMS, is a type of therapy in which electrical impulses are generated by a machine and travel through electrodes into your muscles.

4. ART

ART is a soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.

5. Kinesio-Tape

Kinesio-taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for preventive maintenance, edema, and pain management.

6. Graston

The Graston Technique is a instrument-assisted soft tissue treatment that helps Dr. Rae to effectively break down scar tissue and connective tissue adhesions.

7. Ultrasound

Active Release Technique (ART) - Quick Healing to Overused Muscles

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

What is Active Release Technique (ART)?

ART is a soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. The following are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common which is that they often result from injury to over-used muscles

Headaches
Back Pain
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Shin Splints
Shoulder Pain
Sciatica
Plantar Fasciitis
Knee Problems
Tennis Elbow.

How do overuse injuries occur?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
Acute injuries (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely causing muscles to become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonosis, and nerves can become trapped. This causes reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. When a nerve is trapped you may feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an ART treatment like?

Dr. Rae uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Dr. Rae treats abnormal tissues by combining precisely directed tension with specific patient movements.

ART treatment protocols allow Dr. Rae to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting you. Treatment is non-invasive, very safe, has virtually no side-effects and has a record for producing very good results. Treatments can feel uncomfortable during the movement phases as the scar tissues or adhesions break up. This discomfort is temporary and subsides very quickly after treatment. Treatments take about ten minutes for each area treated and may require anywhere from two to ten visits.

State of the ART Graston Technique

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

The Graston Technique is changing the way clinicians view treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries.

The Graston Technique is a instrument-assisted soft tissue treatment that helps Dr. Rae to effectively break down scar tissue and connective tissue adhesions. Graston utilizes specifically designed stainless steel instruments to effectively treat soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Advantages and Benefits of the Graston Technique

Decreases time of treatment
Faster rehabilitation/recovery
Resolves chronic conditions

The curvilinear edge of the instruments combined with their concave/convex shapes helps to mold the instruments to different contours of the body. This design allows for maximum tissue penetration.

Since the metal surface of the instruments do not compress as do the fat pads of the finger, deeper restrictions can be accessed and treated. Just as a stethoscope amplifies what the human ear can hear, so do the instruments increase significantly what the human hands can feel due to vibration through the instruments that is caused by the instruments passing over scar tissue.

Research found that the controlled microtrauma induced through treatment, increased the amount of tissue healing cells to the treated area. That amount of inflammation to the scar tissue helps initiate healing. The structure of the tissue is rearranged, and damaged tissue is replaced by new tissue. Ice may be applied to reduce the pain and exercise is implemented to increase function and range of motion. Often times exercise is performed while receiving treatment to further augment the speed of healing.

Many other clinical studies continue to show the effectiveness of the Graston treatments achieving better outcomes when compared to other traditional therapies, and resolving injuries that have failed to respond to other therapies.

Kinesio-Tape - Your Modern Way to Treat Muscle Pain

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

Kinesio-taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for preventive maintenance, edema, and pain management.

Kinesio-tape is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement. It is functional type of taping which allows for full range of motion without any restriction. Traditional sports' taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event obstructing flow of blood and lymph... an UNDESIRABLE side-effect.

Kinesio-tape is used for anything from shoulder pain to foot problems and everything in between.

Examples include:

muscular facilitation or inhibition in pediatric patients
carpal tunnel syndrome
lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc)
knee conditions
shoulder conditions
hamstring
groin injury
rotator cuff injury
whiplash
tennis elbow
plantar fasciitis
patella tracking
pre and post surgical edema
ankle sprains
athletic injury prevention

Biochemical Analysis - A Corrective Means of Exercise

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

Dr Rae analyzes functional movement patterns learned through the National Academy of Sports Medicine's (NASM) Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) training.

Corrective Exercise

Today, more people work in offices, have longer work hours, use better technology and automation, and move less on a daily basis. This new environment leads to dysfunction and increased incidents of injury including low-back pain, knee injuries, and other musculoskeletal injuries.

As a result, working with today's typical client and athlete poses significant new challenges to the Health and Fitness Professional. To design and create safe, individualized programs, special consideration should be exercised for each unique individual. Factors such as appropriate forms of flexibility, increasing strength and neuromuscular control, training in different types of environments (stable to unstable), and training in different planes of motion should all be components of an integrated program that addresses the functional capacity of the individual.

These are the basis for the use of corrective exercise and NASM's Corrective Exercise Continuum model. All of the phases included in the model have been specifically designed to follow biomechanical, physiologic, and functional principles of the human movement system. They should provide an easy-to-follow systematic process that will help improve muscle imbalances, minimize injury, and maximize results.

Indulge in Personalized Exercise Programs

Chandler Chiropractic & Sports Therapy

April 2009Present (5 years 7 months)

Before implementing the Corrective Exercise Continuum, an integrated assessment must be performed to determine dysfunction and properly design the corrective exercise program. This assessment process includes (but is not limited to) dynamic movement, range of motion, and muscle strength assessments. This integrated assessment process aids in determining which tissues need to be inhibited and lengthened and which tissues need to be activated and strengthened utilizing the Corrective Exercise Continuum.

The Corrective Exercise Continuum includes four phases: Inhibit, Lengthen, Activate, and Integrate. Inhibitory techniques initially release tension or decrease activity of overactive neuromyofascial tissues in the body. Lengthening techniques such as static stretching increase the extensibility, length, and range of motion (ROM) of neuromyofascial tissues in the body. During the third phase, activation techniques reeducate or increase activation of underactive tissues. Finally, integration techniques retrain the collective synergistic function of all muscles through functionally progressive movements through the use of integrated dynamic movements.

Automobile Accidents - Chiropractic Care is Your Best Choice in Healing

AUTO INJURIES

According to studies performed by the Insurance Research Council, almost 1/3 of all individuals injured in motor vehicle accidents (MVA's) receive treatment from doctors of chiropractic. This is an incredible number based on the fact that the National Safety Council (NSC) has determined that there is more than 12 million MVA's each year involving more than 20 million vehicles.

The reason people like yourself choose doctors of chiropractic for treatment of injuries sustained in MVA's is very simple - chiropractic care has been proven in multiple research studies to be effective treatment of soft tissue injuries, especially of the spine. The most common injuries by far associated with MVA's are sprains and strains of the spinal muscles and ligaments commonly known as whiplash. Therefore, it is only natural that chiropractic be the treatment of choice.

Multiple studies have found that individuals injured in MVA's overwhelmingly prefer chiropractic care for the treatment of their injuries. One study, referenced below, evaluated 190 whiplash injury victims and found those who received chiropractic care for their injuries reported a treatment satisfaction level of 100%.
